Guangdong Petrochemical: Focusing on Polymerization to Safeguard High-End Products
2026-09-08
In the fiercely competitive petrochemical industry, Guangdong Petrochemical's polyethylene business, with innovation as its spearhead, management as its shield, and products as its axis, has successfully achieved a leap from "follower" to "parallel runner" and even "leader," shaping a new pattern of high-quality and high-efficiency development. Technological Breakthroughs Drive Development Momentum. Guangdong Petrochemical, with "polymerization" as its core, has achieved a series of breakthroughs in key technologies and equipment. The company independently developed an explosion-proof wall-climbing robot, achieving 100% intelligent cleaning of fine powder from the dome of a fluidized bed reactor for the first time, setting two industry records: "first intelligent robot cleaning" and "zero human intervention." Regarding the localization of key valves, it has successfully replaced and applied core components such as high-frequency valves in PDS systems, safeguarding the production of new products. Breaking Through Industry Process Technology Bottlenecks. Facing the industry challenge of numerous crystal points and transition materials caused by high-frequency conversion, it pioneered the "three-peak product conversion sequence solidification technology," significantly improving the rate of superior-grade products. Meanwhile, a long-term operation task force for the extruder was established, successfully resolving numerous persistent equipment problems and achieving the localization of key components. High-end products enhance market competitiveness. Guangdong Petrochemical has transformed its technological and management advantages into market competitiveness for high-end products. Its debut with metallocene technology filled a regional gap, and the resulting HP series metallocene products, with their excellent performance, have become market stars. High-density film material DGDZ-6095 has become a flagship product in the South China market. Since 2025, the company has continued its high-end strategy, successfully developing new polyethylene grades such as cast film PE-HD5608C and low-odor small hollow PE-HD5533B to meet higher market demands. Crucially, in May of this year, Sanfeng Pipe Material 23050 passed the 10,000-hour long-term hydrostatic strength test conducted by the National Building Materials Center, officially obtaining PE100 grade certification. All products have passed multiple authoritative certifications, including food hygiene and FDA certifications, continuously strengthening its core competitiveness.

2026-09-08
On September 11, 2025, Guangdong Petrochemical's 500,000-ton/year polypropylene unit successfully trial-produced PP-HM0700 thin-walled injection molding compound. This is the company's third new polyolefin product trial-produced within a week, marking substantial progress in its pursuit of high-end, differentiated, and green technologies. Since September 5, Guangdong Petrochemical's three units—full-density polyethylene, high-density polyethylene, and polypropylene—have successively completed trial production of three new grades of products: PE-HD5533B, PE-HD5608C, and PP-HM0700. These three products have demonstrated excellent performance in process control, product quality, and transition material control. The 800,000-ton/year full-density polyethylene unit produced a new small hollow product, PE-HD5533B, for dairy product packaging. Due to its higher melt strength and lower odor, it successfully passed sensory and performance tests by food and beverage manufacturers and can be widely used in the filling and packaging of dairy products and beverage bottles. The PE-HD5608C cast polyethylene special material produced by the 400,000-ton/year high-density polyethylene unit fills a market gap in the Chaoshan region, effectively alleviating the high logistics costs and long delivery cycles faced by local enterprises relying on external sources. The PP-HM0700 thin-wall injection molding compound produced by the 500,000-ton/year polypropylene unit features high transparency, rapid molding, and high structural strength, and is widely used in food packaging containers, aligning with the environmentally friendly trend of lightweighting. Behind the rapid launch of these new products lies the continuous efforts of Guangdong Petrochemical's systematic innovation mechanism, which is market-oriented, technology-supported, and collaborative. Since commencing production, the company has developed 20 high-efficiency, high-profit new material products, including three grades of metallocene polyethylene that are close to or have reached international advanced levels, high-density pipe special materials that have passed the national PE100 certification, and several film materials whose production volume is among the industry leaders. The total output of new products has exceeded 1.7 million tons, with improvements in both development speed and success rate.
Guangdong Petrochemical Independently Overcomes Challenges to Build a High-Quality Product Matrix
2026-09-08
On October 9, 2025, Guangdong Petrochemical's Marketing and Transportation Department reported another success: during the recent National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, the company strengthened quality control and strictly enforced standards for products leaving the factory, ensuring that all product indicators exceeded internal control standards, winning widespread customer trust. This achievement is highly consistent with the "all qualified" results of the Guangdong Provincial Market Supervision Bureau's spot check in September, coupled with the continued "satisfaction" feedback from customers in Hunan and Guangdong, together forming the "dual certifications" of Guangdong Petrochemical's superior quality. Over the past three years, Guangdong Petrochemical employees have overcome one technical challenge after another with their wisdom and hard work, "conquering" the market, "refining" purity, and "creating" new products, building a highly competitive high-quality product matrix. At 6 PM on October 10, an oil tanker fully loaded with 40,000 tons of jet fuel departed for Hong Kong. This familiar scene still fills the engineers of the terminal operations department with pride. “We eagerly await the arrival of the oil tankers. Their docking signifies that our products are once again exported,” said engineer Lin Weijie with a smile. “Every time we see a ship sailing towards Hong Kong, Malaysia, and other destinations, we feel incredibly reassured!” “The quality requirements for exported oil products are extremely stringent, like engraving words on a grain of rice with a needle—even the slightest deviation is unacceptable,” said Luo Yi, assistant manager of the Refining Department III, who has over 20 years of experience in the industry. Guangdong Petrochemical is an integrated refining and chemical project that processes only heavy and low-quality crude oil. The processing is challenging, and international customers have much higher requirements for key indicators such as flash point, freezing point, and cleanliness of the finished oil products than domestic standards. To address this, Guangdong Petrochemical's leadership and team worked tirelessly in the plant area, optimizing each step of the process, including hydrocracking, fractionation, and desulfurization. “We adjusted more than 20 parameters, conducted nearly 100 experiments, and at the most intense times, we stayed in the control room for 72 consecutive hours,” said chief engineer Deng Yufeng. Through continuous adjustments, the jet fuel smoke point was increased from 22 mm to over 26 mm, and silver corrosion reached level 0 or below, fully meeting the highest international standards. The diesel team simultaneously tackled the challenge of producing ultra-low sulfur diesel. Engineer Gao Shangdong likened it to "a picky child, extremely sensitive to raw materials and operations." By controlling reaction temperature and scientifically proportioning raw materials, the team ultimately stabilized the kinematic viscosity of the diesel at over 3.3 mm²/s and the sulfur content at less than 1 mg/kg. Since the beginning of this year, Guangdong Petrochemical has exported over 2 million tons of various products to more than ten countries and regions, including Australia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam. The product qualification rate has reached 100%, winning high recognition from international customers. At Guangdong Petrochemical, the aromatics complex is like a chef pursuing perfection, dedicated to maximizing the value of every raw material. Song Hongbo, a process engineer with over 30 years of experience in the aromatics industry, recalled his mixed feelings when he first encountered the 2.6 million-ton-scale plant five years ago: "This is one of the world's largest single-unit aromatics plants. There was no mature experience to draw upon; it was truly a 'tough nut to crack.'" He and his team made "stable, long-term, full-capacity, and efficient operation of the plant, producing high-efficiency aromatics products" their core objective. They considered the purity of paraxylene their "lifeline," optimizing adsorption tower parameters and adjusting rotary valve switching times to maintain a product purity consistently above 99.75%, far exceeding national standards and ranking among the industry leaders. The team also continuously explored load matching among the six major units. Utilizing the Intelligent Power Control System (IPC), they optimized the reflux ratio of the heaters and 12 distillation columns, significantly reducing ineffective material circulation. The adsorption tower circulation volume was more than 10% lower than the design value, and the thermal efficiency of all seven heaters exceeded 94%. Faced with impurity accumulation due to high loads, Song Hongbo led his team in innovative design of new pipelines, successfully solving the problem of light oily waste discharge, reducing monthly emissions by nearly 1,000 tons and significantly reducing plant losses. Currently, the unit's overall energy consumption is far below the industry benchmark, continuing to lead the industry. In August of this year, through further optimization of the A8 re-distillation tower operation and adjustment of the heating furnace fuel method, energy consumption decreased by another 1.4 kg of standard oil per ton compared to July. To date, the purity of paraxylene remains above 99.75%, and the yield is stable between 96% and 97%.At Guangdong Petrochemical, the most frequently mentioned topic in the Chemical Division II is "production conversion." Since its commissioning, the four polyolefin units have completed more than 230 production conversions. Employees jokingly say, "We're either converting production, or on our way to converting production." Developing new grades is also a tough nut to crack. In September of this year, the company ushered in a "New Product Week," with three new grades successfully trial-producing within a week. Taking PE-HD5533B, a dairy packaging material, as an example, the team comprehensively considered market demand and process feasibility. By fine-tuning the index and density, precisely switching the nitrogen and additive systems, and closely monitoring reactor temperature, static electricity, and other parameters, they achieved a smooth transition from DMDA-6200 to PE-HD5533B. This product boasts high melt strength and excellent processing stability, making it particularly suitable for dairy and beverage bottle production, significantly increasing added value. When developing PP-HM0700 thin-wall injection molding compound, the team significantly shortened adjustment time by optimizing trial production plans, coordinating propylene inventory, procuring additives in advance, and using the APC system to predict the hydrogen-to-carbon ratio. Precise pellet cutting and additive switching effectively reduced the generation of transition materials. To date, the company has successfully developed 20 high-efficiency new material products, including three grades such as metallocene polyethylene that have reached international advanced levels. High-density pipe-specific materials have obtained national certification, and several film products lead the industry. The total volume of new products exceeds 1.7 million tons, ranking first among Chinese petroleum refining enterprises in terms of both variety and output.
A Year Since Guangdong Petrochemical Fully Commenced Commercial Operations
2026-09-08
The South China Sea blends seamlessly with the sky, and the "refining aircraft carrier" is sailing far and wide. May 30, 2024, marks the first anniversary of Guangdong Petrochemical's full commercial operation. Early in the morning, the spinning propellers churned up waves as the cargo ship "Kunlun Oil 206," fully loaded with over 20,000 tons of diesel oil, slowly departed from the Guangdong Petrochemical terminal, heading towards the South China market. Born from the sea, strong through the sea. As the world's largest single-phase refining and chemical project in China, how has Guangdong Petrochemical developed over the past year? Has it achieved its expected goals? What role has it played in regional economic development? Our reporter takes you inside Guangdong Petrochemical to find the answers. This year, driven by Guangdong Petrochemical, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) increased the number of oil types it could process to over 50, effectively increasing the supply of crude oil resources. Guangdong Petrochemical's ethylene production exceeded one million tons, making a positive contribution to my country's transformation from a major petrochemical producer to a leading petrochemical power. Under the night sky, viewed from above, the world-class integrated petrochemical base—the Guangdong Petrochemical Refining and Chemical Integration Project—shines brightly, becoming a shining "star" in the Jieyang Da Nan Hai Petrochemical Industrial Park. As the only petrochemical base in China and abroad capable of processing only low-grade heavy oil, Guangdong Petrochemical was established when most of my country's refining enterprises could only process low-sulfur light crude oil. This placed an inherent responsibility on Guangdong Petrochemical to reduce concerns about my country's energy security from the supply side. This year, Guangdong Petrochemical fully fulfilled its responsibilities as a key central enterprise, making full use of "two resources" and targeting "two markets," continuously optimizing the channels and types of imported crude oil from the sea. In 2023, Guangdong Petrochemical processed over 16 million tons of 29 different types of crude oil and unloaded over 18 million tons. The proportion of heavy crude oil processed increased from 40% at the beginning of the year to a peak of 75%, forming a unique deep-processing route for heavy and low-quality crude oil in its refining business, truly achieving "processing oil where appropriate, aromatics where appropriate, and olefins where appropriate." More importantly, driven by Guangdong Petrochemical's philosophy of "using China's coarse grains to produce global high-quality products," China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) can process over 50 types of crude oil, effectively increasing the supply of crude oil resources and creating a new situation of domestic and international linkage between my country's oil and gas resources and petrochemical products. This serves as a vivid practice of implementing the important directive that "the energy bowl must be held firmly in our own hands." Looking at the industry as a whole, the establishment of Guangdong Petrochemical is equally significant. At that time, my country had just joined the ranks of the world's largest oil refining nation, and the large-scale import of ethylene and the long-term reliance on imports for high-end chemical raw materials were important factors restricting the construction of a petrochemical powerhouse. As a world-class integrated new petrochemical base with a project scale of 20 million tons/year of oil refining, 2.6 million tons/year of paraxylene, and 1.2 million tons/year of ethylene, Guangdong Petrochemical operated at full capacity over the past year, producing over 1 million tons of ethylene, effectively supporting the rapid growth of my country's ethylene production capacity. Since the beginning of this year, the company has launched over 6 million tons of refined and chemical products across 20 grades. The continuous introduction of specialty petrochemical products into the market has provided strong support for local manufacturing, making a positive contribution to promoting the transformation, upgrading, and innovative development of the petroleum and chemical industry, and realizing my country's transformation from a major petrochemical country to a petrochemical powerhouse. Meanwhile, leveraging its advantageous geographical location, Guangdong Petrochemical has deeply integrated into the Belt and Road Initiative. Its aviation kerosene and high-grade gasoline have successfully entered the markets of Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and Europe, contributing to my country's efforts to strengthen and expand international oil trade and optimize global resource allocation. This year, Guangdong Petrochemical broke the historical pattern of China National Petroleum Corporation's (CNPC) "north-to-south oil transport," rewriting the traditional pattern of Guangdong's petrochemical industry being "strong in the central and western regions, weak in the east," and driving Jieyang City's GDP growth from negative to the highest in the province. At the Guangdong Petrochemical Company's product terminal, cargo ships are orderly loading oil and chemical products before sailing to countries such as Singapore, Vietnam, and the Netherlands. On the Petrochemical Avenue in the industrial zone, heavy trucks loaded with resin products from Guangdong Petrochemical head towards nearby users such as Shantou and Fuzhou. Located adjacent to the Greater Bay Area in the heart of eastern Guangdong, at the confluence of the Longjiang River and the South China Sea, Guangdong Petrochemical is a key link in CNPC's South China strategy and an important practice in helping Guangdong Province achieve its "One Core, One Belt, One Zone" development strategy and effectively promoting the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This year, Guangdong Petrochemical, leveraging the large platform of its parent company, actively collaborated with regional sales companies and specialized enterprises, breaking the historical pattern of China National Petroleum Corporation's "north-to-south oil transportation." Now, fuel-powered vehicles in Guangdong, Fujian, and other provinces and municipalities, fueled by clean oil produced by Guangdong Petrochemical, cruise smoothly on the roads; flights at Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport in Guangdong, refueled with aviation kerosene produced by Guangdong Petrochemical, soar effortlessly through the skies… With the commissioning of Guangdong Petrochemical, Guangdong finally achieved "Guangdong oil sold in Guangdong." This year, the entry of Guangdong Petrochemical's chemical products into the market brought new momentum to this major manufacturing province, rewriting the traditional pattern of Guangdong's petrochemical industry being "strong in the central and western regions, weak in the east." In Huilai County, Jieyang City, where the Guangdong Petrochemical project is located, from shop signs to underground drainage pipes, renovation and upgrading are underway, a city-wide beautification project is in full swing. This is just a small example of how Guangdong Petrochemical is benefiting local development. "Since Guangdong Petrochemical started production, our production has had a stable supply of raw materials. I place an order in the morning and receive the goods in the afternoon," said a chemical product user in Shantou, echoing the sentiments of many users in the South China market. To date, millions of tons of synthetic resin products produced by Guangdong Petrochemical have flooded into East China, driving down Guangdong's synthetic resin import rate from 46.8% to 33.5%. Manufacturers of films, toys, and other products in East Guangdong not only have a stable supply but also significantly reduce transportation costs. "We are cultivating industrial clusters with a 'super chain leader' as the driving force," said Li Hongfeng, deputy director of the Jieyang Da Nan Hai Petrochemical Industrial Zone Management Committee. Around Guangdong Petrochemical as the "leading force," Jieyang City has comprehensively launched actions to "strengthen," "supplement," and "extend" the industrial chain, achieving local supply and cross-border transformation of basic chemical products. It has successively attracted 12 mid- and downstream industrial projects, and a "one super, many strong" industrial structure is beginning to emerge. Once the industrial zone is fully operational, its annual output value will exceed 40 billion yuan, further boosting Jieyang's regional GDP growth. With the successful implementation of a major project, the entire region's leapfrog development has been revitalized. Guangdong Petrochemical, as Jieyang City's "Number One Project," achieved operating revenue of 93 billion yuan in the past year, contributing 20% of Jieyang City's GDP that year. It propelled Jieyang City from negative growth to becoming the fastest-growing city in the province, and facilitated the successful signing of nearly 100 billion yuan in planned investment for downstream petrochemical projects in South China. This year, Guangdong Petrochemical focused on strengthening its capabilities through technology, empowering the industry with green practices, and deeply rooting itself in intelligence, striving to become a benchmark and set an example in accelerating the development of new-quality productivity, prioritizing ecological protection and green development, and promoting digital and intelligent development. Walking through the Guangdong Petrochemical plant area, towering refining towers contrast with lush green vegetation, and rising steam embraces fluffy white clouds, unfolding a magnificent picture of modern industry accompanied by the rumble of machinery. Refining is an industry that emphasizes technology, intelligence, and environmental protection; how to properly manage the relationship between these elements is a common challenge faced by the refining industry. Through a year of exploration, Guangdong Petrochemical has provided an optimal solution: strengthening capabilities through technology, empowering the industry with green practices, and deeply rooting itself in intelligence. In the past year, Guangdong Petrochemical has persisted in using innovation to break through enterprise management and technological bottlenecks, striving to become a benchmark in the new journey of accelerating the development of new-quality productivity. Focusing on the "dual-carbon, three-new" benefit growth points, Guangdong Petrochemical established five special working groups for refining, chemicals, aromatics, green and low-carbon development, and digital intelligence. It completed a feasibility study for an 8,000-ton/year tetramethylbenzene comprehensive utilization project, domestically replaced 28 new "three-agent" products, and developed a total of 20 new chemical products, including five grades developed for the first time by the group. Two metallocene products successfully entered the market, and ACP9255 was exceptionally included in the group's 2023 new product catalog (Category B). Product development continues to achieve new breakthroughs. Green is the foundation of high-quality development. Guided by the "dual-carbon" goals, Guangdong Petrochemical continuously strengthens the legal and compliant management of pollutant emissions, improves the implementation plan for creating a green enterprise, conducts special VOCs investigations, and organizes over 2,600 environmental quality monitoring points for wastewater and exhaust gas. Wastewater reuse rate reaches over 70%, and solid waste is treated 100% in compliance with regulations, forging a new path of ecological priority and green development. On May 30th, at an inspection point in the Guangdong Petrochemical ethylene unit, Liu Wei'ao, an operator from the Chemical Department of Guangdong Petrochemical, "checked in" with a smart inspection device after completing an inspection. The central control room, 1 kilometer away, received real-time inspection information and trajectory. "This was unimaginable before," Liu Wei'ao said. Smart factories are the forefront of the refining industry. Over the past year, Guangdong Petrochemical has actively led the development of digital intelligence. The deep application of various digital technologies has sculpted the "most powerful brain" of the smart refinery; the successful application of intelligent systems has led to cleaner production and more efficient operation of the refinery… Guangdong Petrochemical has not only become China National Petroleum Corporation's first cloud-native smart factory without information silos, but has also achieved data integration and sharing across all business domains, successfully being selected as a "National Smart Manufacturing Demonstration Factory." With the South China Sea's tides rising high, it is time to set sail. Guangdong Petrochemical, this pearl of the South China Sea carrying many expectations, is embarking on a new journey to accelerate its transformation into a green, intelligent, and efficient world-class refining enterprise. The cadres and employees of Guangdong Petrochemical braved the winds and waves and forged ahead under pressure, striving to contribute more and greater petroleum power to the advancement of Chinese-style modernization.
Guangdong Petrochemical: The competition "Innovation and Creation" fosters talent with ingenuity.
2026-09-08
Day after day of on-site honing has propelled Guangdong Petrochemical's "skilled elite" team from the production line to national competitions. At 10:00 AM on January 15th, inside the catalytic cracking unit at Guangdong Petrochemical, shift leader Chen Zhikun explained vibration monitoring points to operator Yan Kuan beside the main blower, demonstrating operational techniques. Simultaneously, in the 200,000-ton/year polypropylene unit, young operator Liu Shengbiao closely followed his mentor Lu Hongjun, attentively recording the equipment's sound characteristics and the experience his mentor imparted. Since 2025, the number of Guangdong Petrochemical's external competitions has steadily increased, resulting in numerous awards, including a gold medal in the "Youth Innovation" China Youth Carbon Neutrality Innovation Competition, a gold medal in the Group's Polyolefin Operator Competition, and a first prize in the Bidding Business Competition."I joined Guangdong Petrochemical Company after graduating from university in 2022, and have gradually grown over the past three years. Winning the gold medal in the 2025 National Industry Vocational Skills Competition for Polypropylene Unit Operators is inseparable from the company's systematic training path," said Liu Shengbiao, a polypropylene unit operator, summarizing his career trajectory. In recent years, Guangdong Petrochemical has adhered to a systematic training philosophy, building a digital, full-cycle talent development support system through top-level system design and innovative assessment models. At the system construction level, the company has revised and improved core systems such as the "Education and Training Management Measures," and implemented supporting programs such as the "Sailing Project," a three-year training plan for new employees, and a special cultivation project for young talents, establishing a three-level linkage supervision mechanism of "monthly inspection—quarterly evaluation—annual assessment." Zhao Jianshuang, Deputy Director of the Human Resources Department of Guangdong Petrochemical, introduced that the company promotes the "135" new knowledge transformation and application mechanism in key training courses, namely, sharing and proposing innovative measures within one month after training, implementing and evaluating the effects within three months, and providing feedback on the initial results of the measures within five months. Learning and sharing can take the form of thematic discussions, training exchanges, and internal meetings. In addition, Guangdong Petrochemical has introduced digital assessment methods, conducting in-depth online training, computer-based exams, online quizzes, and simulation training. In 2025, 48 new electronic question banks were added, and 595 online exams of various types, including monthly exams and professional assessments, were conducted. Guangdong Petrochemical has also introduced digital tools such as online examination systems, AI intelligent tutoring platforms, and 3D simulation training systems to achieve full online management of the training process and full traceability of learning data, improving overall training efficiency by over 90%. Wang Kai, Deputy Manager of the Second Chemical Department of Guangdong Petrochemical, explained that they always adhere to the principle of individualized instruction. After new employees complete the company's unified basic training, they receive specialized training based on their respective majors and personal characteristics. Specialized engineers from each unit tailor curriculum systems for young employees, enhancing the relevance and effectiveness of the training. "In terms of mentorship, we fully implement a dual-mentor system, with department leaders serving as career development mentors for new employees to guide their growth; at the same time, we select experienced and highly skilled senior engineers or chief technicians within the plant to serve as their professional skills mentors, systematically strengthening employees' professional foundation," said Wang Kai.While systems "accumulate" talent, competitions "forge" them for real-world experience. Guangdong Petrochemical adheres to the principle of "training through competition," regarding competitions at all levels as a "special forces training ground" for honing a team capable of "rapid response, professional expertise, and winning battles," thus promoting the rapid growth of talent through competition. In 2025, Lei Chonghui, an operator of the delayed coking unit, and his team won the gold medal in the 3rd "Youth Innovation" China Youth Carbon Neutrality Innovation Competition National Finals. "The competition tests not only professional skills but also systemic thinking and teamwork," said Lei Chonghui. Following this, the Guangdong Petrochemical team won first prize in the 4th China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Technical Skills Competition and the Group's First Bidding Business Skills Competition. Currently, the 4th Guangdong Petrochemical Skills Competition is in full swing. The competition, guided by a focus on practical application and on-site execution, included intensive on-the-job training and emergency drills. The exam questions covered 13 specialties, focusing on real-world production content such as process interlocks, accident case analysis, and start-up and shutdown procedures. Meanwhile, standardization efforts are progressing steadily. In early December 2025, the "Fluid Loading and Unloading Operation Vocational Skill Level Assessment Question Bank," compiled by the Terminal Operations Department of Guangdong Petrochemical Company, passed the review of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), filling a gap in the group's skills assessment in this field. Tong Guangying, Deputy Manager in charge of training at the Terminal Operations Department of Guangdong Petrochemical Company, who was responsible for compiling the question bank, explained that the development took six months, bringing together professional expertise from process, safety, and equipment departments. Through eight thematic discussions and twelve rounds of cross-reviews, nearly 5,000 theoretical and practical questions covering five skill levels were ultimately formed. The practical questions innovatively designed a full-process module of "preparation-operation-evaluation," highly replicating on-site operation scenarios and providing a scientific and standardized basis for the training of skilled personnel. In 2025, the "special operations" teams were a common sight on the front lines of Guangdong Petrochemical. Ye Rudong, an operator in the styrene unit of Chemical Engineering Department I, calmly responded to a colleague's request for help regarding "tower temperature fluctuations": "First, check the steam curve, then check the feed composition." As a gold medalist in the company's skills competition, he applied the emergency response methods learned in the competition to the field. When solving problems, he always said, "There's always a solution," becoming a pillar of support for his colleagues. Wang Zhanfeng, a process engineer in the atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit and also a gold medalist in the company's skills competition, led his team to improve efficiency through technology. They successfully implemented an advanced control system, reducing key parameter fluctuations by more than 30%, increasing product yield, and continuously reducing energy consumption. He often says, "You must understand the principles behind the parameters." Through a training model of "theory + practice + simulation," he cultivated a group of technical backbones who have repeatedly achieved excellent results in the group company's competitions. Teamwork further enhances the role of the talent pool. Faced with the challenge of declining conversion rates in the catalytic distillation tower of the methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) unit, personnel from process, equipment, and safety departments collaborated to efficiently complete the design and installation of temporary pipelines, clearing production bottlenecks and maintaining a 100% product qualification rate. The polypropylene unit team continued to make breakthroughs in new product development, successfully trial-producing high-end thin-walled injection molding grades, and completed the development of 12 new products by 2025. Currently, Guangdong Petrochemical's C4 unit has reduced energy consumption by 8.42%; the sulfur recovery unit's products are 100% qualified; and ethylene production is increasing year by year… From building a robust talent pool and honing skills through rigorous training to practical application, Guangdong Petrochemical has not only enriched its talent pool through systematic and practical talent development but has also ensured a more stable pace of development.Talent is the most valuable asset for an enterprise's development. How to enrich the enterprise's talent pool is a question that managers at all levels need to consider deeply. Guangdong Petrochemical has established and implemented training programs for frontline employees. Through systematic training, customized guidance, frontline mentorship, and on-the-job experience, it promotes batches of practically skilled employees who have grown on the front lines to various large-scale competitions. Afterwards, they apply their practical experience to their actual work, gradually becoming experts in their positions. This not only achieves the goal of "promoting training through competition and improving skills through training," but also forms a positive closed loop in talent development. The front line is the broadest stage for talent cultivation. Enterprise managers need to think more and summarize how to more effectively help more outstanding employees stand out. It is also hoped that employees can make good use of this stage for growth and development, observe more, practice more, and think more in their actual work to increase their talents, improve their skills, and achieve a win-win situation for personal improvement and enterprise development.
